Big Island Pond is a 532 acre lake located in the towns of Atkinson, Hampstead, and Derry, NH. The cottage sits on an isolated point of land that juts out into a channel that separates it from the Governor’s Island from which the Ponds derives its name. The depth of the lake ranges from 70 feet and averages 34 feet.
The shoreline of BIP is dotted with interesting cottages, camps, coves, sandy beaches and small islands. It is perfect for family boating, canoeing, kayaking, quiet fishing, hiking, or bird watching. Species of fish include Eastern brown trout, rainbow trout, small mouth and large mouth bass and of course plenty of sunfish and perch for the kids to catch from the private dock.
The cottage is reached via a mile long ride down a beautifully forested private road which ends at a point of land with two cottages. On either side of the point are peaceful wetlands-home to ducks, cranes, hawks, turkeys and turtles. The cottages face Governor’s Island and offer a great place to wave to boaters and fishermen as they head out to the large lake.
The cottage is well maintained and includes a full kitchen with microwave, refrigerator, stove/oven, one bathroom with shower, three bedrooms, a TV room, dining area with large windows facing the Island, and a charming family room. Included are some fishing gear, a private dock for fishing, swimming and cannon balls. Outside there is a picnic table, chairs, a private beach and a private dock. You are welcome to bring your own water craft.
